Subject: Fourpeaks visit Date: Wed, 30 May 2001 07:24:51 -0700 From: Gary J***** To: VisitUs@4peaks.com Dear Martin and Louise, We didn't want to leave. What a week we had at Sugar Camp. Hiking through the Spring woods was so different from last October. Red-spotted Newts; haven't seen those since I was a teenager back in the '50s. The green snake grass off of Stonehouse Road, the deep burgundy of the trillium in bloom and the brilliant yellow of the marsh marigolds was breathtaking against the greens of the forest. Leisurely hikes up Bassett, Rattlesnake Knob and Ebenezer, then up to Ridge Camp with the three dogs filled much of our time. Two bar cubs crashing through the woods, chasing one another in play was something you won't see in Syracuse! Back at Sugar Camp, Todd baked breads while I marinated the rack of lamb, which was cooked perfectly on the grill outside with Wainwright and Bassett peaks in the background, doesn't get much better. The Mozart Clarinet duo, Op.487, from the original for two Corno di Bassetto, and the Beethoven Adagio and Menuetto from the Sextette Op. 71 for 2 clarinets, 2 horns and 2 bassoons are the pieces we played. My GPS I showed you is a Garmin Emap. I'll forward digital pictures within the next several days. The map may not scan properly, but I'll give it a try. I can see from the preliminary results that to make a more precise and comprehensive map, I could have added more way points and not walked off trail as often as I did. This gadget really picked up these off trail strolls so it would be rather confusing to someone else using the resulting map. We certainly will return to 4peaks, hopefully this fall. Regards, Gary and Todd
